Paul Ferguson gets the week started with a selection from Wetherby; Wayward Glance in the 13.15. Compare odds.
The opening juvenile maiden hurdle is potentially the most informative race of a quiet day’s action up at Wetherby on Monday, in which Blue Destination and Gottany O’s have the best hurdles form on offer.
That pair finished second and third, respectively, at Doncaster recently, but they face another smart Flat performer this afternoon in the shape of Wayward Glance (1:15) who was a maiden winner for Michael Bell and The Queen.
Now in the care of Jim Best, who sends his son of Sadler’s Wells on the long journey north from Sussex, he was a fair stayer on the level who acted well with cut in the ground.
After scoring on the turf at Lingfield, he finished a respectable fifth in the Melrose Handicap at York off a mark of 80 and runner-up on his penultimate start at Haydock.
A front-runner, he is sure to try and make all on this hurdling debut and, if he jumps proficiently, he could just be up to the task. At the likely prices, he is worth taking a small chance on, especially with his stable having a fine record at the track.
