Kazlian won as he liked at Ffos Las last month and David Pipe’s juvenile is greatly respected, but the opening novice hurdle at Leicester on Tuesday is a competitive contest and he is taken on with Alan King’s Tuscan Gold (1:10) who looks a viable each-way alternative at the likely prices.
The five-year-old was a smart stayer on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott and he ran a race full of promise on his hurdles debut for the Highclere Stud, who shelled out 75,000gns for him at the Tattersalls sales in October.
Fourth to the useful Hit The Headlines in a decent contest over 2m4½f at Huntingdon a month ago, he shaped really well for a long way before the stamina test in easy ground and high winds became all too much for him up the straight.
It’s not surprising that King now drops the Medicean chestnut back in trip and he was trading at 6/1 on Betfair on Monday evening. If he opens up around those odds on Tuesday morning, he should be backed each-way as he will be difficult to kick out the frame and I think he can put it up to the favourite.
I’m taking a couple of days off after today, but hope to back in time for the weekend.
