Former Talksport man Charlie McCann flags up a pair of tips from Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. View Selections below
The Channel 4 cameras are at Cheltenham on New Years Day and we are betting 1/3 odds 1, 2, 3 in the sponsored feature event. It really is a top class event with Champion trainer Paul Nicholls having a strong hand with The Nightingale and Ghizao (2.10 Sun) and it is the latter with Ruby Walsh booked who gets the nod.
The selection hardly jumped a fence but was still bang in contention until the last in a valuable handicap over tomorrow’s C&D last time. There ought to be a bit more give in the ground than there was last time, and that will certainly help Ghizao in what promises to be a most informative race. Havingotascoobydoo looks as if he will appreciate the step up in trip and is a big danger.
There is a cracking Novice chase earlier in the card and I just favour Sonofvic (1.05) over the penalised pair of Invictus and Solix in what again promises to be a terrific heat. The selection was only beaten a couple of lengths by Grand Crus (giving 7lbs) at Newbury on his chase debut over 3m but he should be able to cope with the drop back in distance in a race that could be a good trial for the Jewson Novices’ Festival at the Festival in March.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year from all at .
