Paul Ferguson turns his gaze to Ireland today for one selection from Leopardstown; Make Your Mark in the 12.25. Compare odds.
Despite the disappointment of Bog Warrior falling, the famous Gigginstown House Stud silks were carried to success on no fewer than five occasions on Monday and they once again hold a strong hand in Leopadstown’s Grade 1’s on Wednesday.
Magnaminity joins Gold Cup hope Quito De La Roque in the Lexus Chase, while First Lieutenant, Last Instalment and Crash all run in the Leney Novice Chase.
It remains to be seen whether the ground will be soft enough for Quito De La Roque and the same can be said of Last Instalment, who has been deserted by Davy Russell in favour of Cheltenham Festival winner First Lieutenant.
Two from four over fences to date, he has everything in his favour this afternoon in that he is up to 3m and encounters better ground for the first time as a chaser.
I’d like to see him go and do it, however, and prefer to back the owner’s representative in the opening maiden hurdle Make Your Mark (12:25).
The four-year-old points winner was impressive when landing a Punchestown bumper last month, where he looked one to follow after pulling 11 lengths clear of Sizing Gold.
The third home shaped well in the bumper at the track yesterday and it will be disappointing if Willie Mullins can’t take this four-year-olds contest for the second year in a row, having saddled the smart So Young to score in this 12 months ago.
Wednesday’s selection:
