Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Bank Holiday Tuesday; Tara Royal at Wetherby and Finian’s Rainbow at Kempton. Compare odds.
It’s a big day for trainer Donald McCain and owner Tim Leslie, as Peddlers Cross takes the next step up the novice chase ladder at Kempton this afternoon, but the pair also have Tara Royal (2:20) in action in Wetherby’s Castleford Handicap Chase.
The six-year-old showed smart form over further as a novice last term, but he’s a pretty keen going sort and the drop back in trip could be the making of him.
He was in the process of running a big race until falling at the seventh on his reappearance at Ascot just 10 days ago and, if that hasn’t left it’s mark, he looks capable of making amends off 133.
The feature down at Kempton, the WilliamHill.com Desert Orchid Chase, should go the way of Finian’s Rainbow (2:40) for Nicky Henderson and Barry Geraghty.
Another top novice from last term, his sole defeat came in the Arkle and, with his main market rival Wishfull Thinking not looking his best this term, this looks the ideal starting point for the season.
The selection won his bumper at the track and has a fine record fresh, having won first time up in each of his three seasons.
Tuesday’s selections:
2:20 Wetherby: Tara Royal (10/3 VC)
2:40 Kempton: Finian’s Rainbow (8/13 Paddy Power / Hills)
