Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Sunday; Sous Les Cieux, an 11/8 shot in the 12:50 at Fairyhouse in Ireland Compare odds.
Fairyhouse stages three Grade 1’s this afternoon and, while all three looks slightly substandard renewals, they are all potentially informative contests.
Willie Mullins took the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle with Zaidpour last year and with subsequent Champion Hurdler Hurricane Fly in 2008 and the in-form trainer can strike again with Sous Les Cieux (12:50).
Beaten at odds-on on his sole start in Ireland last term, the son of Robin Des Champs was an impressive winner of a maiden at the track last month, where he won with any amount in hand.
He drops back half a mile today, but that shouldn’t be a problem given the way he travelled for Ruby Walsh last time and he is held in high regard by his powerful connections.
The five-year-old needs to improve on his French form and also what he achieved here last time, but he is a horse full of potential and gets the vote over Il Fenomeno (even though there is a line of form through a horse called Seanie Boy to suggest he has the selections beating) and Galileo’s Choice.
The latter could be the chief threat, despite only winning his maiden hurdle by a neck in July. Dermot Weld’s five-year-old has since won at Killarney and a Group 3 at Leopardstown on the Flat, though I suspect he will want better ground to be shown in a better light over jumps.
