Sponsors Ladbrokes face a million pound payout after chalking up Phil Taylor at an industry best price of 5/4 for the World Darts Championships.
The firm pledge to offer the best price in the world about Taylor until midnight on the day after the draw.
Taylor’s opposition looks likely to come from reigning Champion Adrian Lewis this year who is 7/1 to win and 9/2 to meet Taylor in the final. The sponsors also report a surge of support for outsider Justin Pipe at 150/1 while James Wade is an equally popular selection at 9/1.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told betrescue.com “We’ve really pushed the boat out here. Punters won’t get a better price about Taylor anywhere else and given the form he’s in it could be an incredibly costly move.”
He added: “As usual those drawn well have attracted support with early money suggesting Pipe can translate his form on the floor to the big stage.”
