Live on ESPN: Sat 12.30: Shrewsbury are even money with Betfred to avoid an FA Cup first round upset by beating Newport County.
The FA Cup first round clash between Newport County and Shrewsbury has presumably been selected for television coverage in the hope that it will throw up an upset but the formbook suggests that there won’t be much evidence of the romance of the cup on show at Newport Stadium.
The hosts, bet365’s 3/1 outsiders, are struggling badly in Blue Square Premier, lying just two places off the foot of the table and although the competition gives the Welsh outfit the opportunity to put their league woes aside briefly, Shrewsbury are in decent enough shape to avoid a potential banana skin.
The Shrews are riding high in fourth in League Two and chalked up a 2-0 victory at Dagenham last weekend, despite playing with ten men from the 25th minute onwards. Graham Turner’s men have to be fancied at even money with Betfred then and as they have kept three clean sheets on the spin, the visitors also look well placed to prevail ‘to nil’, a result William Hill offer at 11/4.
Recommended Bets:
