Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today; Moonlight Drive in the 1.50 (Mar Ras) and Invictus in the 2.30 (Here) Compare odds.
A former Irish points winner Invictus (2:30) could well come into his own over fences this season and begins life over fences on a mark of 122, which makes him of great interest in the novices’ handicap chase at Hereford on Thursday.
He cost current connections £162,000 last April and won a maiden hurdle at Ascot on his last start, beating Barbatos by a short head. The runner-up has franked the form already this season, winning at Aintree and chasing home Fingal Bay last Sunday.
The step up in trip on good ground should be in his favour and Ladbrokes’ opening 4/1 seemed extremely fair on Wednesday evening.
Moonlight Drive (1:50) is an equally interesting chasing debutant at Market Rasen and John Quinn’s five-year-old is fancied to land the 2m6f beginners’ chase.
The son of Oscar also scored in the Irish point-to-point ranks and he made an immediate impression on his rules debut, beating the useful Trustan Times in a Wetherby novice hurdle in February.
Tony McCoy’s mount failed to land a blow behind Bobs Worth in the Albert Bartlett on his final outing, but he can leave that form behind now he goes chasing and the booking of the champion jockey is a positive.
Thursday’s selections:
1:50 Market Rasen Moonlight Drive
2:30 Hereford Invictus
