Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Sunday; Bygones In Brid and Habbie Simpson at Ffos Las and First Lieutenant at Cork. Compare odds.
Alan King has his string in fine form and the trainer can land a double at Ffos Las this afternoon, starting off with Bygones In Brid (1:00) in the opening novices’ hurdle.
Peckhamecho holds a fitness edge over the selection, having shaped with plenty of promise on his hurdles debut at Cheltenham last month, but the son of Old Vic finished 8 lengths ahead of that rival when runner-up to Ericht in a Newbury bumper in February and can confirm the form.
Habbie Simpson (2:05) can complete the double in the novices’ limited handicap chase, off a reasonable looking opening mark of 133.
A useful novice hurdler last term, he won at Wetherby and Warwick before twice finishing third to Bobs Worth at Cheltenham. Ninth in the Neptune, he was over the top on his final outing and he has the look of a chaser. The six-year-old will need further in time, but the soft ground should bring his stamina in to play here.
Over in Ireland First Lieutenant (3:20) is given the chance to reverse recent course form with De Valira, despite meeting that rival on worse terms.
Last year’s Cheltenham Festival winner was left in front for too long according to jockey Davy Russell last time and, if he is to reach the heights expected of him, he needs to be bouncing back this afternoon.
Sunday’s selections:
1:00 Ffos Las: Bygones In Brid
2:05 Ffos Las: Habbie Simpson (6/4 Boylesports)
3:20 Cork: First Lieutenant (11/8 Bet365)
