Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today; Midsummer Sun (5.15 Nott) and Stonemaster (4.25 Punc). Compare odds.
A half-brother to the top-class mare Midday, Midsummer Sun (3:15) made the most of a lenient looking mark on his handicap debut at Chester last time and can follow up this afternoon at Nottingham.
A 6lb rise for a snug success last time seems fair and, though he looks as though he’ll improve when returning to 1m4f, Sir Henry Cecil’s Monsun colt can take this prize en route back to pattern company.
Over in Ireland Stonemaster (4:25) is another smart novice chase prospect for the Gigginstown House Stud and he can land the beginners’ chase at Punchestown.
Dessie Hughes’ six-year-old was a smart hurdler and he won a couple of well-contested contests last year under today’s rider, Davy Russell.
An imposing son of Old Vic, he looks built for chasing and won his sole start in the pointing ranks back in February 2009. He could make up in to a smart novice over fences.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:15 Nottingham Midsummer Sun (7/2 VC)
4:25 Punchestown Stonemaster
