Dream Ahead and Hoof It are the 5/1 joint-favourites with Betfred for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock tomorrow afternoon as Haydock braces itself to stage one of the best renewals of the race in recent memory.
Hoof It will have to bounce back from a disappointing run in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes last time out but connections are adamant that a combination of the trip and the rain-softened ground were to blame for a below-par performance at York.
Mick Easterby’s gelding is an 11/2 shot with the sponsors to finish runner-up in the Betfred Sprint Cup whilst it’s 6/1 that he finishes third. Those that wish to oppose the Stewards’ Cup winner can back him at 4/7 to be unplaced.
“Ground conditions will be key to the make-up of the Betfred Sprint Cup market and if the rain stays away from Merseyside, then Hoof It will surely be backed into outright favouritism,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo.
Ireland is represented by last year’s Nunthorpe hero Sole Power and Charles O’Brien’s Bewitched and it’s a 9/2 chance that either of those horses lands the Sprint Cup. Roger Charlton has won the race twice in the past with Tamarisk and Tante Rose and Betfred make him an 11/2 shot to win it again with either Bated Breath or Genki.
