Live on BBC ALBA: Sun 15.00: Hibs and Aberdeen are hard to split in the SPL but Gary O’Connor is 6/1 (Paddy Power) to strike first.
Punters could probably have got huge odds on Hibs and Aberdeen languishing in the bottom two, even at this early stage, but that’s the situation as the two square up at Easter Road today.
Ladbrokes lean towards the hosts, installing them as 11/8 favourites and a glance at the Dons away record tells you exactly why, Craig Brown’s men having lost all three matches on the road without even finding the net. However, the Hibees remain winless on their own patch, where they have netted just once, so it’s perhaps a bit risky to write off bet365’s 21/10 outsiders.
Skybet offer 23/10 for a draw and the goal-shy pair are 8/1 via Boylesports to play out a bore draw but defensive weakness in both line-ups probably rules out a 0-0 stalemate and Betfred’s 11/2 posted against it finishing one-each is the way to go.
Nevertheless, it could take a while for the goals to arrive and offer 17/20 that fans in the capital have to wait until after the 27th minute for the deadlock to be broken.
Garry O’Connor is a strong candidate to grab that opener. The former Scotland international is enjoying something of a renaissance since rejoining Hibs in the summer and indeed before the derby defeat at Hearts, the powerful striker had struck in four consecutive league and cup outings. He’s a tasty 6/1 (Paddy Power) to notch first in this one and bet365 chalk O’Connor up at 2/1 to add to his tally at any stage.
