Paul Ferguson brings us one selection from the York meeting on Friday; Storming Bernard in the 16.15). Compare odds and bet.
Today’s card lacks the overall quality of the opening two-day’s of the Ebor meeting and it was the opening 1m4f handicap that first appealed as the best betting race on the card.
Though I could make a case for a couple of big priced runners, namely Prompter and Waldvogel, I’ve decided to wait for the penultimate contest, the Sky Bet Mobile Convivial Maiden Stakes, for the day’s selection.
This looks a potentially hot contest on paper and there’s no doubt that several of the newcomers from big yards will be supported, but Burano and Storming Bernard (4:15) have some decent form in the book already and could be over-priced.
The pair clashed at Newmarket last month when the latter finished second to this week’s Group 3 Acomb winner Entifaadha, while Burano was back in fourth.
He lost a shoe, so connections will be hopeful he can reverse form, but the selection was twice the price last night and represents a bit of value.
Alan Bailey’s gelding has since been beaten at Chester, but he was caught behind a couple of horses that day and failed to quicken off a slow pace. He can leave that run behind in a more strongly run race and has sound each-way claims.
Bet365 are offering ¼ odds to 3 places (which is unusual for a maiden) and they had Storming Bernard priced up at 20/1 on Friday evening.
Friday’s selections:
4:15 York Storming Bernard (20/1 Bet365)
