Paul Ferguson brings us one selection on Saturday Pekan Star in the 14.05 at Newmarket. Compare odds and bet.
A fairly quite day as far as Saturday’s go and this afternoon’s sole selection comes in the opener at Newmarket, in the shape of Pekan Star (2:05) who looks well worth another chance after last month’s York flop.
The lightly raced Montjeu colt was impressive on his seasonal reappearance on the Knavesmire in May and was sent off at 3/1 for the ultra-competitive John Smith’s Cup.
15th of 19, something was surely amiss that day and, in a much weaker contest and at a bigger price than he went off last time (4/1 into 7/2 on Friday evening), he is worth giving another chance to.
The main danger is likely to be the unexposed three-year-old Kirthill, who ran well on his handicap debut over this course-and-distance last time. He remains on an upward curve for trainer Luca Cumani.
Saturday’s selection:
2:05 – Newmarket – Pekan Star
