Live on SS1: Thu 19.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Bridgestone Invitational and fancies Watney’s chances: Selections:
The return of Tiger Woods is the big golf story of the week and Tiger has stated he is ready to go in an event where he has had plenty of fantastic memories over his career. It is hard to imagine just a few years ago that Woods would be available at 22/1 (Coral) for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational event.
Woods is even 2nd fav at 6/5 with Will Hills in a match bet with Rory McLlroy which looks very fair.
The Bridgestone Invitational is the last event before the season’s final Major and is a huge event in its own right. Nick Watney, already an impressive winner at Doral, looks worth backing this week at 25/1 (Ladbrokes) while I expect Dustin Johnson, who played so well at Sandwich, to also have a big week at 20/1 with bet365.
For Lee Westwood (16/1, Paddy Power) it is all about the putting and I reckon another big week is only just round the cornner and he is my selection to finish leading European here, a 6/1 outcome with Stan James, but it is Watney to come good.
Watch out for Tiger – any sign of a return of form will see his PGA odds shorten as well as Coral’s standout 20/1 on Tiger to win the 2012 Open Championship at Lytham.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
