Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; The Real Article in the 4.50 Galway Hurdle. Compare odds and bet
After frustratingly siding with the wrong one in yesterday’s Galway Plate, I’m banking on The Real Article (4:50) to improve my mood by winning this afternoon’s Guinness Galway Hurdle.
I’ve long been a fan of Edward O’Grady’s smooth-travelling six-year-old and he has come of age on his last two starts, winning easily at Down Royal before running a career best when a short-head second to Captain Cee Bee just 11 days ago.
Upped by the handicapper to 145 after that run, he races here off 127 and is, therefore, 18lbs well in. He is 23lbs better off with the runner-up for that short-head defeat.
A strongly run race over 2m on quick ground is what he is after, so everything is in place for The Real Article, who ought to take plenty of beating.
Those looking for each-way alternatives should consider Hidden Universe (11/1) and Oilily (20/1) though I’ve only got one horse on my mind for this, despite the competitiveness of the event.
I can’t let today’s column pass without a mention to Frankel, who was simply sublime in winning the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. Sometimes betting goes out the window and, watching the unbeaten three-year-old crack the brilliant Canford Cliffs, was one of those occasions.
Thursday’s selection:
4:50 Galway The Real Article (4/1 Paddy Power)
