Paul Ferguson likes the look of Pistolet Noir in the 4.00 at Marker Rasen on Sunday. Compare odds and bet
Though he isn’t totally trustworthy Pistolet Noir (4:00) is taken to get off the mark at the second time of asking over fences at Market Rasen this afternoon.
The five-year-old is yet to win from 10 starts for Paul Nicholls and, in fact, hasn’t scored since he won a Grade 2 juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham in November 2009 when trained by Nick Williams.
However, bar one error down the back, he jumped pretty well on his chase debut at Cartmel last month and showed enough to suggest he can win a race over fences.
He wasn’t able to quicken after the last and could never peg back Al Qeddaaf, who has since followed up under a penalty.
The step up in trip will suit, as will the shorter run in here, and his best effort for Nicholls came when third in the Listed Silver Cross Handicap Hurdle at last year’s Grand National meeting (off 135).
That useful piece of form came on good ground over 2m4f, so there should be no excuses this afternoon. Bet365 have Pistolet Noir at 6/4 first show.
