The Sports Personality of the Year award is heading to Northern Ireland according to Ladbrokes following Darren Clarke’s Open win.
Following Darren Clarke’s victory in the Open as a 150/1 outsider his odds of landing the gong have been slashed to 5/4 from 100/1.
Countryman Rory McIlroy drifts to 5/4 from 1/2 having looked to have the award in the bag following his US Open win.
And it’s 16/1 bar those two with Andy Murray, Phil Taylor and Jessica Ennis among the athletes who appear to have it all to do to overhaul either of the Open winners.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Even at this stage we can’t see anyone else getting close. It’s now a toss up between the two countrymen with the USPGA looking vital.”
