Live on Skysports 1: Sat 21.00: John Murray (8/13, Totesport) and Ricky Burns (1/5, Boylesports) can win on a big night of boxing.
There’s a huge night of boxing on the cards at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday and one of the most eye-catching bouts is John Murray’s eagerly awaited showdown with Kevin Mitchell for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title.
Unbeaten Murray is Totesport’s 8/13 favourite and given that Mitchell has been out of the ring for over a year since his disappointing loss to Michael Katsidis, it’s easy to fancy the Mancunian who is 13/8 (Boylesports) to stop his Essex opponent.
Skybet offer just 9/4 for Murray to secure a KO in the first half of the twelve round scrap but Mitchell is likely to have learned a valuable lesson in the early stoppage defeat that accounted for his unbeaten record last time out and he can at least take this tussle into the latter stages.
Subsequently, a case can be made for Murray to end the contest in rounds 7-12, an outcome Skybet quote at a tempting 4/1.
WBO super featherweight world champ Ricky Burns puts his belt on the line against Nicky Cook and the Scot should defend his title on Merseyside, a result Boylesports price at 1/5. Burns however, doesn’t have the heaviest of hands and the bet in this one is subsequently Stan James’ 11/8 for him to prevail on points against a gritty and determined opponent.
The Commonwealth and British light heavyweight titles are up for grabs as local favourite Tony Bellew squares up to Ovill McKenzie for a second time. Bellew, available at 1/4 with bet365, prevailed in the eighth in controversial fashion when the pair contested a thriller back in December and and the confident scouser looks decent value at 4/6 courtesy of Skybet, to again KO the awkward Derby scrapper.
Meanwhile Frankie Gavin is 7/4 (Stan James) to be given the nod by the judges as he faces footballer-turned-boxer Curtis Woodhouse.

Ricky Burns to beat Nicky Cook by Decision or Technical Decision – 11/8 (Stan James)
