Frankel has hardened at the head of the market ahead of Wednesday’s QIPCO Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and Betfred now make the unbeaten three-year-old the 5/6 favourite (from even money) for the ‘Duel on the Downs’.
Consequently, Canford Cliffs has eased in the market to 5/4 (from 11/10) with Zoffany next in the betting at 14/1.
“We initially had Canford Cliffs ahead of Frankel in the market for their big clash at Goodwood but punters have come down firmly in favour of the latter in recent days and Henry Cecil’s colt looks all set to go off favourite in the Sussex Stakes,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo.
King George winner Nathaniel remains a 5/1 shot for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with Betfred following the news that the improving three-year-old will head straight to Longchamp in October. John Gosden’s colt had been ante-post favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger and whilst he’s unlikely to head there, Betfred offer him at 4/5 with a run.
