Silvestre De Souza nudged nearer the leading duo of Ryan Moore and Paul Hanagan in the Flat Jockeys’ Title after recording a double at Catterick on Wednesday, with William Hill cutting him to 11-2 from 7-1 following support.
De Souza, having been available at as big as 40-1 after last year’s Championship, now stands just one victory behind Moore with 63 successes on the scoreboard, and eight behind current title-holder Hanagan.
Ryan Moore is now top price at 5-4 with William Hill (from 10-11) to retrieve the top-jock crown.
Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said ‘As with Hanagan last year, De Souza seems to have have crept into contention from under the radar and could now pose a threat to the front two’
