Chelsea have been installed as 5/1 favourites for the Carling Cup by Ladbrokes as the competition gets under way in Crawley.

The tournament starts with a preliminary match between Crawley Town (1000/1 for the tournament) and AFC Wimbledon (2500/1), and it’s the money-bags league two side which are expected to prevail at 8/11. It’s 5/2 for the sides to draw and AFC are 4/1 for an away win.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “There’s no guarantee how top sides will handle this competition and the open market reflects that. Whilst the opening fixture doesn’t look like throwing up the outright winner it should go the way of the home side.”
