Live on SS1 & 3: Thu 10.00 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Irish Open and Greenbrier Classic : Selections:
The Irish Open is a sell out and Darren Clarke looks a great bet at 28/1 (Betfred) to follow up his Open win with the bookies clearly thinking he must be still hungover with these generous odds. Clarke may well have had a few drinks but since Sunday has been fully focused and should give backers a great run.
US Open Champion Rory Mcllroy could easily win but is not a value bet at 6/1 (Ladbrokes). Of the bigger prices Chris Wood at 45/1 with Coral appeals after finishing placed here last year and Robert Rock at 40/1 with Ladbrokes looks over priced.
Webb Simpson at 22/1 (Sportingbet) is my pick in Greenbrier Classic. He has been unlucky not to have won this year and should go well while at 45/1 (Stan James), Brendon de Jonge, who has shown some solid form this season and finished 3rd here last season, looks overpriced.
Maria Hjorth from Sweden looks a great each way bet at 35/1 with Skybet in this week’s Women’s British Open at Carnoustie. She played really well in the recent Evian Masters which from 2013 has been granted Major status and loves links Golf – as was shown when runner up in this event at St Andrews in 2007.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
