Live on SS1 & 2: Thu 10.30 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Scottish Open and John Deere Classic : Selections:
Following last week’s 14/1 win with Nick Watney, Angus brings us his selections for this week.
Lee Westwood and Luke Donald head the betting at 9/1 and 10/1 respectively (both Ladbrokes) for this weeks Scottish Open which has moved from it’s traditional home of the banks of Loch Lomond to Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness.
I like the chances of Justin Rose at 33/1 (Betdaq) here, he will love the course and is a really at home on a links course.
Padraig Harrington, at 35/1 with Sportingbet, has often played his best golf the weekend before The Open Championship and although not having his best campaign is worth taking a chance with at decent odds – he could become a big gamble for Sandwich next week if he performs with credit here.
Of the outsiders, Alex Noren and Johan Edfors leap off the page (both 80/1 Coral) and it would be no surprise if one of these two made the frame on Sunday night.
Steve Stricker is Paddy Power’s 7/1 market leader for the John Deere Classic but it is Aussie Jason Day who is my selection at 11/1 (Betfred). Day, 2nd in the Masters and US Open, is a serious contender at 33/1 () for Open Championship at Sandwich next week.
Jonathan Byrd won here in 2007 and has been in decent form this season he is 28/1 with Stan James which looks too big a price while the same firm offer a tempting 80/1 on Paul Goydos who finished a clear 2nd, 4 shots clear of the field when chasing home Steve Stricker here last year.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
