Paul Ferguson has two evening selections for us on Thursday; 7:50 Haydock: Nahrain and 8:55 Leopardstown: Notable Graduate Compare odds
Roger Varian has hit the ground running since taking over from Michael Jarvis and the victory of Ferdoos in the Listed Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock last month was an early highlight for the young trainer.
He returns to the Merseyside track on Thursday with another potentially smart filly in the shape of Nahrain (7:50) who was an impressive winner on debut at Windsor last month.
The Selkirk filly can be expected to have come on for that and, if that is the case, an opening mark of 87 may well underestimate her ability.
Over in Ireland, the concluding Nijinsky Stakes can go the way of Notable Graduate (8:55) who has won his last two, having been beaten by the potentially smart Marksmanship on his seasonal return.
Dermot Weld’s Galileo colt holds entries in the Irish Derby and in the Irish St Leger, so is clearly held in some regard and this looks the ideal stepping stone in to Group company.
