Paul Ferguson takes 3/1 shot Nathaniel to come up trumps in the 3.05 at Ascot Compare odds and bet
Current St Leger favourite Nathaniel (3:05) can enhance his claims for the final Classic of the season by landing the King Edward V Stakes on the penultimate day of Royal Ascot.
The Galileo colt currently only has a three-runner Haydock maiden victory to his name, but he was just a ½ length off Frankel on debut last August and he was just a head off Treasure Beach in the Chester Vase last time.
The winner was then beaten just a head in the Derby and Nathaniel was arguably an unlucky loser, looking far from comfortable on the unconventional track. He proved he handled soft ground when bustling up Frankel as a juvenile and, as a thorough stayer, he looks to have everything in his favour this afternoon.
John Gosden deliberately skipped Epsom for this contest and it is worth remembering that he trained last year’s St Leger winner, who finished runner-up in this en route to Doncaster.
Nathaniel looks a potentially classier type than Arctic Cosmos and can land this strong renewal, possibly at the main expense of another Haydock maiden winner Mijhaar, who looked hugely impressive when winning four weeks ago.
