Live on Eurosport 2: Sat 22.00: Mexico are bankers against Guatemala, Costa Rica v Honuras is harder to call in the Gold Cup quarter finals.
CONCACAF Gold Cup favourites Mexico have been rampant in the tournament so far, averaging over four goals a game in Group A and conceding just once across their three matches. Subsequently, Ladbrokes make them just 1/6 to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition by getting the better of Guatemala and Jose Manuel de la Torre’s charges have to be considered an absolute banker.
Guatemala only progressed as one of the two best third-placed teams having failed to score against both Honduras and Jamaica before registering a 4-0 triumph against Group B whipping boys Grenada, so they’ve shown nothing in the tournament thus far to suggest they will trouble the Mexicans.
Subsequently, Mexico look set to prevail ‘to nil’ (8/11, bet365) but better value can be found in the handicaps where de la Torre’s unstoppable side are 5/4 with Stan James to emerge triumphant by at least three clear goals as they have done in all three of their matches.
Costa Rica are the narrowest of favourites at 13/8 with Stan James to get the better of Honduras (9/5, bet365) in the pair’s last eight showdown in the New Meadowlands Stadium.
However, Ricardo La Volpe’s troops were perhaps a touch fortunate to reach the quarter final stage and a solid-looking Honduran outfit can nick this one.
Recommended Bets:
Mexico (-2) to beat Guatemala – 5/4 (Stan James)
Honduras to beat Costa Rica – 9/5 (bet365)
