Live on Eurosport 2: Sun 20.00: USA are 4/7 (Stan James) v Jamaica and Panama 4/6 (888Sport) v El Salvador in tonight’s Gold Cup quarter finals
Hosts USA only qualified in second place from Group C in the CONCACAF Gold Cup after suffering a shock 2-1 reverse against Panama in Tampa but Bob Bradley’s men are nevertheless odds-on favourites at 4/7 with Stan James to book their place in the semi finals of the competition by beating Group B winners, Jamaica.
However, Theodore Whitmore’s men, Paddy Power’s 11/2 underdogs, won all three of their group matches without conceding a goal so they are no pushovers and as the States have shown their vulnerability, they simply don’t appeal in the match betting at such a short price.
Instead, given Jamaica’s defensive resilience and the fact that USA kept a couple of clean sheets in the group stage as well, it could be worth considering Betdaq’s 2.0 (even money) for the contest in Washington DC to produce fewer than 2.5 goals.
By contrast, in the remaining last eight encounter Panama and El Salvador should generate plenty of goals. The former, at 4/6 courtesy of 888Sport are worthy favourites and should have too much for their leaky opponents but they’ve conceded in every game themselves and so this looks like a clash in which both teams will find the net (11/10, bet365). Alternatively, chalk odds of 21/20 against a match tally of at least three goals.
