Maria Sharapova is the 2/1 favourite for the Women’s tournament at Wimbledon according to Ladbrokes, Roger Federer is 7/4 Men’s fav.
On a day when several favourites crashed out the re-mapped Women’s market now points towards Kvitova (5/2) and Azarenka (4/1) for the tournament.
Serena William’s elimination was great news for the firm who had laid a £66,000 bet on her to win the tournament less than 12 hours before she took to court.
In the Men’s tournament the top seeds all continued to progress leaving the market in the same order. Djokovic (3/1 from 11/4) and Murray (11/2 from 5/1) are small drifters as punters home in on the top two in the betting.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Serena was a colossal loser in the outright book. Getting her beat today has put us on the front foot as far as the Women’s tournament is concerned.”
he added: “Nadal and Federer are the subject of most of the money in the Men’s so far. We’ve eased Murray & Djokovic in response with the Serb our best result at present.”
