Live on SS1 & 3: Thu 10.30 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Wales Open and Memorial Tournament and picks his bets.
Following a win at Wentworth (Luke Donald) and an each way placing at the Byron Nelson (Jason Day), Angus looks ahead to this week’s golf;
Graeme McDowell defends his Saab Welsh Open Title hoping it will result in the same kind of form that gave him such a memorable run of form in 2010, which included winning the US Open and holing the winning Ryder Cup putt at Celtic Manor. He is 12/1 market leader with Betfred this week and has an obvious chance. McDowell is one of 4 members of European Ryder Cup Team playing at Celtic Manor this week.
Jamie Donaldson would be a popular local winner and at 35/1 (bet365) should give backers a decent run for their money after a solid finish in last weeks BMW PGA at Wentworth while 66/1 with Sportingbet is over the odds for each way backers on 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie.
Luke Donald did us a favour last week and became World Number 1, he is Coral’s 10/1 fav to win at Muifield Village this week in the Memorial on a course that is ideal for his game.
Matt Kuchar at 18/1 (Paddy Power) is my selection here this week, he is showing such solid form at present, while Rickie Fowler may not have been sparkling in recent weeks but has all the right credentials to win here and is a tempting 35/1 for the each way backers with Blue Square.
European Golf has never had it so good and Donald and Westwood will both head to Congressional in Washington later this month for the US Open and Sandwich in Kent for next month’s Open Championship in great form – it promises to be a vintage summer.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
