Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Wednesday; Trooper Clarence (3.40, Newt Abb) and Elzahann (4.00, Sedge). Compare odds
After recording novice handicap victories at Kempton in March and Bangor in April Trooper Clarence (3:40) took a further step forward when running away with a competitive contest at Stratford last Sunday and he can score under a 7lb penalty at Newton Abbot this afternoon.
The seven-year-old relishes quick ground and is once again partnered by claimer Adam Wedge, who offsets the penalty. This looks a weaker race than the one he won last week and Evan Williams’ charge, who was trading at Evs overnight (Boylesports), is fancied to complete the hat-trick.
Up at Sedgefield course-and-distance winner Elzahann (4:00) is worth siding with in the 3m3f Classic Excel Handicap Chase.
Ferdy Murphy’s mare was a smart hurdler on good ground a couple of years back, when she impressively completed a hat-trick at Haydock off a mark of 122 and she is now two from six over the larger obstacles.
The second of those victories came here in March, where she appeared to relish this marathon trip, and she has since run well twice off higher marks over timber.
Up 9lbs since her last success, the nine-year-old looks sure to run well under optimum conditions and was available at 10/3 (Hills) overnight.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:40 Newton Abbot Trooper Clarence (Evs)
4:00 Sedgefield Elzahann (10/3)
