Live on Premier Sports: Sat 15.00 Luton are 8/11 favourites with Sportingbet in the Blue Square Premier play-off final, but have AFC Wimbledon been underestimated?
AFC Wimbledon finished in second in Blue Square Premier, a full six points ahead of Luton but it’s the Hatters that are favourites at 8/11 with Sportingbet, to gain promotion as the pair lock horns in the play-off final at Eastlands.
Luton are 6/4 courtesy of Betfred to ensure they are playing League Two football next season and they have to be respected after a couple of decent semi-final victories against a resilient Wrexham side.
However, the Dons look have to been underestimated ahead of the promotion decider, bet365 seemingly overpricing them at 2/1 to prevail in 90 minutes and making them 11/10 to go up. Terry Brown’s men were the best of the rest in the division, and would arguably have gone up automatically in any other season, only an outstanding Crawley team denying them on this occasion.
Furthermore, they comprehensively dispatched a decent Fleetwood team over two legs in the semis, beating the Cod Army 8-1 on aggregate, so they head to Manchester in buoyant mood, as admittedly do their opponents and the only discouraging factor where the underdogs are concerned is the fact that they lost 3-0 and drew 0-0 with the Hatters in the pair’s two league games.
Wimbledon have obviously found it tough to break Luton down this term then but with eight goals scored in their two play-off games they should nevertheless pose a significant attacking threat in Manchester and they can edge this one overall.
