Live on ESPN: Sat 19.00: Schalke are 4/7 (Stan James) to lift the German Cup over 2nd-tier Duisburg and put shine on a poor season.
Schalke’s season fell to bits somewhat following the Champions League quarter final triumph over Inter Milan; they have lost the last 6 matches of the season, including 2 comprehensive defeats to Man United and 4 league losses.
The cup will provide a much welcome reprieve from a disappointing league campaign in which they finished 14th. Schalke are Stan James’ 4/7 favs as they battle it out against 2.Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg.
The semi finals back in early March are almost a distant memory but not to Schalke fans who watched their team stun Bayern at the Allianz Arena and the team and fans alike will be fired up to claim some silverware.
Duisburg come as inevitable outsiders; going as large as 6/1 for a win in 90 minutes, a big price in a cup final, while a draw is 3/1 with Betfred.
Duisburg have not had a wonderful season themselves, finishing 8th and ending the season with a patchwork of wins and defeats. Their cup run was on the easier side and while no credit should taken away from them, they could be in over their heads at the Olympiastadion, Berlin.
Schalke, pretty shakey at the back, should be looking to net at least twice (8/13 with Paddy Power) but more value lies in backing both teams to score, even money with William Hill while a match with 3 goals or more is decent at 19/20 (bet365).
It’s a good day for Duisburg but they should be outclassed by Schalke.
