With only three days to go until the big day, Coral report that betting business on the Royal Wedding has trebled since the weekend, with The Queen to wear a yellow hat being the most popular and Kate to give birth this year by far the cheekiest.
A yellow hat has been backed into just 5-4, from an opening price of 12-1, while a Royal baby in 2011 was a 100-1 chance before one of two optimistic punters forced the price down to 25-1. So with a five liability the latter would prove the worst result for the Essex based bookies if it were to happen.
“Business is far exceeding our expectations, with all variety of bets being asked for, and with most of the big reveals kept secret until Friday, we expect turnover to reach record highs as we take bets right up until the morning,” said Coral spokesman Gary Burton. “We just hope there isn’t a Royal pregnancy announcement anytime soon!”
A rainy forecast has also seen a rush of bets for a closed carriage to be used as the Royal couple leave the Abbey. The price has been halved to 3-1 (from 6-1). And with reports in two popular Sunday papers that the honeymoon will be in Australia or Jordan, Coral have cut the price of Oceania and Asia to be the chosen continent to 3-1 and 4-1 from 7-1 and 20-1 respectively.
Other significant movers in the betting with Coral are for Kate to wear an ivory coloured dress, 4-5 (from 5-4), Kate to wear her hair up, 4-5 (from Evs), the dress train to be under 3 metres, 11-8 (from 2-1) and the BBC viewing figures to be under 20 million.
