Live on Skysports 2: Tue 19.45: Man United will be happy to settle for a draw (23/10, Ladbrokes) as they head to heavy scoring Schalke.
United, 11/8 with Stan James, are yet to concede a single goal in an away game in the Champions League this season, so you could be forgiven thinking that 7/4 (Coral) about a United clean sheet is a good bet but Schalke’s strategy is to score goals.
With ten goals in their last three outings in this competition, Schalke, a decent 12/5 with bet365, should really find the back of the net; Paddy Power saying 4/9 that the Germans will hit the net at least once and Skybet go 9/4 about two goals or more.
The problem is for Schalke fans, the German side have been leaky as well as prolific, making William Hill’s even money about both teams to score a tempting bet.
Hernandez and Raul are the men to watch at the Gelsenkirchen, the former 2/1 to net anytime with Stan James (under consideration due to Berbatov’s absence) while Raul, the firm fans’ favourite at Schalke, is a fantastic 3.2 (11/5) with Betdaq to score at any point, surely too high for the all time leading Champions League goal scorer.
Overall, United will do well to come away with a draw. 0-0 (8/1, Totesport) is looking very unlikely and any other draw result would play nicely into United’s hands, especially 1-1, an 11/2 chance with Coral.
Man United have never beaten German opposition over two legs in Europe under Alex Ferguson, making a bit of a mockery of Betfred’s 3/10 about United qualifying but this year could be the year. Tonight’s trip will be far from easy but the draw is within their grasp.
