Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Easter Monday, both at Fairyhouse; Rathlin (3:45) and Quantitativeeasing (4:55). Compare odds
The Ladbrokes Irish Grand National is the highlight on a busy Easter Monday and the step up in trip could bring about significant improvement in the lightly raced novice Quantitativeeasing (4:55).
Nicky Henderson’s raider is two from four over fences, winning at Fontwell and Market Rasen earlier in the season, but he put up his best effort to date last time when runner-up at the Cheltenham Festival.
Up 3lbs for that, the brother to top-class staying mare Asian Maze (a winner at this meeting in 2005) is worth siding with at double-figure odds with Coral.
Earlier on the card Rathlin (3:45) is the one to beat in the Grade 2 novice hurdle, having run a cracker in the Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham last time.
The son of Kayf Tara only got off the mark over hurdles 10 days before the festival, when beating yesterday’s easy winner Sicilian Secret by 4 lengths, and he stepped up on that when meeting decent ground for the first time.
A reproduction of his Supreme run should be good enough, but after just three starts there is every chance there is more to come and the early morning price of 13/8 looks more than fair, given conditions are likely to be ideal.
Monday selections:
3:45 Fairyhouse: Rathlin
4:55 Fairyhouse: Quantitativeeasing (10/1 Coral)
