Paul Ferguson has 0ne selection for us on Sunday – Topolski in the 2.15 at Newton Abbot. Early price 11/8 at Stan James and Paddy Power.
Victor Dartnall saddled a winner at Uttoxeter yesterday and his Shammick Boy is improving all the time over hurdles, but he may struggle to concede 6lbs to Topolski (2:15) when he bids to complete the hat-trick in the opener at Newton Abbot today.
David Arbuthnot’s five-year-old was more than useful on the Flat, winning handicaps off 82 and 86 at Newmarket and Chester respectively last term, and he made a winning debut over hurdles at Sandown last month.
Whilst he may have been slightly flattered in that he had the race run to suit, with the lack of pace suiting his natural speed more than Lifestyle and Megastar who both failed to settle, it was a fine first effort and after the contest his trainer was talking of a trip to Aintree.
If he is to make the journey north to Liverpool in a couple of weeks, the son of Peintre Celebre really needs to be winning this under the in-form Daryl Jacob, who broke his festival duck aboard Zarkandar on Friday.
