Paul Ferguson has another tip for us on Tuesday; Karasenir in the 3.00 at Southwell, ridden by Jamie Spencer.
The quiet start to the week continues on Tuesday and, unusual for me, I’m heading to the all-weather for the day’s selection.
Philip Hobbs is a jumps trainer to take notice of when saddling runners on the level and he runs his useful novice hurdler Karasenir (3:00) in a 1m4f maiden at Southwell, presumably with bigger targets on the Flat in mind.
The five-year-old twice chased home Cheltenham Festival runner-up Rock On Ruby in bumpers last season and he has won twice over hurdles this term, both times when faced with his favoured good ground.
He has since run well in a handicap at Taunton off a mark of 130 and the son of Sendawar, who himself was a top-class Flat performer winning the French 2,000 Guineas and Royal Ascot’s St James’s Palace Stakes in 1999, finished midfield in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham just 11 days ago.
Jamie Spencer is an eye-catching booking, as he has ridden big race winner for the stable in the past such as Unleash (Northumberland Plate) and Detroit City (Cesarewitch), and this could be the first step on path to one of the feature mid-season handicaps for Karasenir.
Tuesday’s selection:
3:00 Southwell Karasenir
