Coral has trimmed Derby fav Frankel to 4/1 (from 5/1) after Henry Cecil’s charge was among the entries for the leading Classic trial, York’s Dante Stakes, today. Stablemate World Domination, as yet unraced but another given a York entry, is 20/1 (from 25/1) for the Derby.
“Although connections are understandably reluctant to commit Frankel to the Derby at this early stage, his Dante entry suggests they are keen to keep all options open, and the York race has proved to be an excellent stepping-stone to Epsom in recent years,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
With the flat season proper underway today, betting on the Flat jockeys’ title has been lively, and with Kieren Fallon, 11/4 (from 7/2), and reigning champion, Paul Hanagan, 7/2 (from 5/1), both popular with punters today, favourite Ryan Moore has been eased to 5/4 (from evens) by Coral.
“We regard Ryan Moore as the one to beat in the jockeys’ title race, but punters seem to disagree, with both Kieren Fallon and Paul Hanagan well-backed to prevent Moore regaining top-spot at the end of what could be an extremely thrilling season,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
On a busy day of ante post betting, Taqleed is 5/1 (from 9/2) favourite for Saturday’s Lincoln, while the gamble on Havant continues, the filly now 5/1 joint favourite for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, and the same price for the Investec Oaks.
