Live on Eurosport: Mon 11.00: The Welsh Open breaks off in Newport on Monday and here KEVIN FRANCIS casts an eye over the baize.
THEY say there is no place like home – and MARK WILLIAMS will be hoping to prove it at the Newport Centre. Welshman Williams gets my vote to land the spoils at 9/1 with Boylesports, just a week short of his 36th birthday.
Williams heads into this tournament on the back of a thrilling 9-7 win over Mark Selby in the German Masters last Sunday and is now up to second place in the world rankings, his highest position since 2005.
Williams is certainly in formidable form this season. The twice world champion narrowly missed out in the UK Championship in December, losing the final 10-9 to JOHN HIGGINS after leading 9-5. Williams will be ‘up’ for this one in front of his own fans and I fancy him to make the final.
Higgins, the reigning Welsh Open title holder, is 7/1 with 888sport and is worth a wager. RONNIE O’SULLIVAN is 6/1 favourite with Paddy Power while another one to watch is the always dangerous DING JUNHUI from China who is 8/1 with Skybet, Stan James, Boylesports and .
SUGGESTED BET: Have an each-way flutter on Welshman Mark Williams at 9/1 with Boylesports, half-the odds if finishing runner-up.
Happy punting
Kevin
