Live on Skysports 1 & 3: Thu 08.00 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Northern Trust Open and Avantha Masters.
Steve Stricker, at 14/1 with , looks the value in this week’s Northern Trust Open at Riviera.
Stricker hasnt played much golf yet this year but has an outstanding record here having won title last year and finished 2nd to Phil Mickleson in 2009.
Mickleson himself is a worthy market leader at 17/2 (Sportingbet) and won here back to back in 2008 and 2009 after losing to Charles Howell in playoff in 2007 – it is a real course specialist’s course.
Matt Kuchar looks a decent outsider at 28/1 with Totesport while those who like a huge price could do a lot worse than Fred Couples at 150/1 with bet365; Freddie may be a senior now but feels totally at home here.
The European Tour moves to India for the Avantha Masters and Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar looks overpriced here at 35/1 with Betdaq. It is not the strongest of fields and local knowlege, of which he has plenty, will be important.
Soren Hansen is another to consider at 18/1 (Skybet) but missed the cut on his latest start which has to be a concern.
Of the outsiders, Scott Strange is a player with immense ability but hard to catch right but he showed enough last week to suggest he should be shorter than 28/1 () on offer in India this week.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
