Live on BBC2: Sun 13.30: The Masters at Wembley is the first big snooker event of 2011; the Daily Star’s Kevin Francis previews.
Mark Selby is confident he can retain his Masters crown to make it three wins in snooker’s most prestigious invitation tournament at Wembley Arena. The Leicester cueman, a 15/2 chance with totesport, says: “Wembley brings the best out of me. I’ve got a good record in the event and I love playing at Wembley.” He’s well worth a speculative bet.
Ronnie O’Sullivan was beaten by Selby in last year’s final and is a somewhat generous 4/1 with Skybet, Boylesports, Betfred and Stan James. ‘The Rocket’ has featured in six of the last seven Masters finals and been victorious in three of them. He will certainly be right in the frame for the £150,000 winner’s cheque.
Current world champion Neil Robertson (13/2 with bet365) is another strong contender while Chinese hot-shot Ding Junhui could be a good each-way bet at the lengthy odds of 16/1 with Betfred and Paddy Power.
SUGGESTED BET: I pointed you in the direction of JOHN HIGGINS for the UK Championship last month and he duly obliged at the suggested ante-post odds of 9/1 in his comeback event after suspension following match-fixing allegations. He defeated Mark Williams in a real thriller of a UK final and I feel he will be a real threat at the Wembley Arena. He is a 13/2 chance with bet365, totesport, Boylesports and sportingbet who all pay half the odds on each-way bets, winner and runner-up.
Happy punting
Kevin
