Andy Murray has been cut to 5/2 (from 5/1) by Coral to win the Sports Personality Award, after progressing to the Australian Open semi-finals.
Murray beat little known Oleksandr Dolopolov in straight sets, and know faces David Ferrer, who caused a huge shock by defeating the favourite and world number one, Rafa Nadal, also in straight sets.
“As usual Murray has started the season well and has been backed to win the Australian Open and Sports Personality, and though his path to the final has been made a little easier with Nadal’s defeat, he still faces a tough match against a former champion in the final,” said Coral spokesman Gary Burton.
Murray takes on Ferrer on Friday morning and is a 1/3 favourite to earn a place in a second successive Aussie Open final. He is 15/8 to win outright.
