Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Saturday, all at Ascot. 1:50: Carole’s Legacy,
2:55: Soldatino and 4:05: Master Fiddle
Nicky Henderson dominated last Saturday’s feature meeting and his brilliant 2011 can continue at Ascot this afternoon, where he saddles any number of serious chances.
The pick of his runners could be Master Fiddle (4:05) in the concluding novices’ hurdle, as the six-year-old should relish the step up in trip.
A mistake three out cost him success on his first start over timber, but the bumper winner can make amends here and will probably be rounding off another red-letter day for the stable.
Earlier on the card the admirably game mare Carole’s Legacy (1:50) ought to be tough to beat back over hurdles and against her own sex.
She has to concede 5lbs to all her rivals, but with proven stamina and top-class form in the book, the daughter of Sir Harry Lewis can return to winning ways.
Unbeaten Triumph Hurdle winner Soldatino (2:55) is another Seven Barrows inmate worthy of support in the Grade 2 limited handicap hurdle over a trip that should suit him ideally (2m3½f).
The five-year-old is two from two in Britain and he probably rates better than the bare form of the Triumph, as he had to work hard to reel in runaway leader Barizan.
The handicapper has given him a chance on a mark of 148 and, if he is to enter Champion Hurdle calculations, he must go very close here.
Saturday’s selections:
1:50 Ascot: Carole’s Legacy
2:55 Ascot: Soldatino
4:05 Ascot: Master Fiddle
