Live on Skysports 3 & 1: Wed 20.00 & Thu 06.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Abu Dhabi Championship and the Bob Hope Classic.
The Abu Dhabi Championship this week sees a field as strong as you are ever likely to see outside a Major or World Golf Championship event and after only 5 years, it is already fully established on the European Tour.
Martin Kaymer is a worthy favouite at 8/1 (888sport) having won here last year and ending 2010 as Europe’s Number 1 but I like the chances of Paul Casey who, like Kaymer, has won twice here but is this week available at 16/1 (Ladbrokes) – double those of the German.
Phil Mickleson makes a rare start on the European Tour and his game is perfect for this course and he looks a great each way bet at 25/1 with Sportingbet, a price that looks very generous indeed.
Of the bigger prices, Ross Fisher at 40/1 (Boylesports) looks over the odds.
The Bob Hope Classic is over 4 courses and 5 rounds and looks a minefield for punters but one player who really caught my eye with a closing 64 was Brian Gay. He has enough abilty to go close here and is worth taking a chance with this week at 40/1 (bet365)
Bill Haas should give backers a decent run at 18/1 with Betfred as defending Champion while at 45/1 with Stan James, Kevin Na looks a decent each way bet in a very open event.
