Matt Cardle is 1/2 fav (Coral) to have the Christmas number 1, after the 27-year-old was crowned X Factor winner for 2010.
The Trashmen are 5/2 second favourites to take the coveted festive top spot, with Jon Cage next at 8/1.
“In recent years the X Factor winner has been almost guaranteed the Christmas number one, and Matt Cardle is hot favourite to do so this year, although plenty of punters are backing The Trashmen to spoil the X Factor party, and a repeat of the public campaign that saw Rage Against The Machine grab top spot twelve months ago could result in the current favourite being denied,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
The bookies were hit hard by Matt’s win, as he had been hot favourite to win this series, and his success has cost the industry in excess of £1m.
“The good news is this has been the biggest X Factor yet in betting terms, the bad news is Matt has been the punters’ number one choice for some time, and thanks to him, Christmas has come early for his backers,” added Stevens
