Live on Skysports 2: Sat 12.45 & 17.20: Desperate Middlesbrough head to Coventry where the hosts appeal at 13/10 (William Hill).
To say Middlesbrough’s away record is poor would be something of an understatement. Tony Mowbray’s men have lost seven out of nine on the road, scoring just four games and the fact that two of those goals came in one match at Scunthorpe gives an indicator of just how many times they’ve drawn a blank.
It’s difficult to understand then why William Hill quote hosts Coventry at 13/10 as they welcome Boro to the Ricoh Arena, especially as the Sky Blues are sixth and come into the game on the back of two wins ‘to nil’. Another of those might entice the brave at 11/4 (Paddy Power), given the visitors lack of goals, but we’re happy to stick with a straightforward victory for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.
Before last Friday, Portsmouth had taken just one point from four matches but they stopped the rot in impressive fashion by edging out promotion chasing Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. With confidence suitably restored then Pompey look primed for another victory back at Fratton Park where they face Burnley.
The Clarets are still winless on the road and have been patchy of late, so there’s little to suggest they can glean a maximum haul on the south coast, where Steve Cotterill is 6/4 with bet365 to guide his Portsmouth side to a satisfying victory against his former club.
Leeds’ form at Elland Road is up and down and with struggling Crystal Palace having shown a few signs of life of late, albeit at Selhurst Park mostly, the Whites don’t appeal at 5/6 (Stan James). The Eagles are a marginally more attractive proposition at 4s with Coral but the real value in West Yorkshire is in the goal tally.
Only one of Leeds’ nine home matches has generated fewer than three goals and overall their games on their own patch have averaged four apiece. Palace’s last four on their travels meanwhile, have generated 18 goals and they have the joint worst defensive record away from home. It’s hard to see those backing a total higher than 2.5 in this one, not pocketing a profit then at odds of 10/11 with Betdaq.
