After being pinned down to 201-8, Australia’s tail-enders stuck on a much needed 67 runs to finish on 268 all out. England stepped in and negotiated a tricky closing 12 overs to end Day 1 on 29 without loss.
Ponting looked fairly reckless again, scoring 12, and his side are now 9/2 with Betfred to get a win out of this one. His best hope is perhaps the draw at 7/2 (Blue Square) but in reality, it’s too early to rule out the hosts just yet, cricket has a funny way of swinging one way and then the other. 2 early wickets tomorrow could send Australia’s odds tumbling.
