Live On Skysports 3: Thu 08.30: Angus Loughran previews this week’s South African Championships and the SPOTY award.
I like the chances of Retief Goosen in this week’s South African Open at 11/1 (Betfred). He played really well without much luck in the Nedbank Challange when finishing 3rd and looks certain to be in contention in Durban this week.
It is suprising to see Richie Ramsay at 50/1 with Paddy Power as defending Champion but he was 100/1 when winning in a playoff here 12 months ago.
The outsider I like this week is Richard Sterne who is on the comeback trail after missing most of 2010. He looks really good value at 40/1 (William Hill) while at 30/1 with 888sport, James Kingston must be included as he has a liking for this course.
Golf is well represented in Sundays BBC Sports Personality of Year – Lee Westwood is 20/1 with Totesport and, although Tony McCoy would be a worthy winner he is poor value at Evens, so I have backed US Open Champion Graeme McDowell who is currently top priced 7/2 at .
McDowell also holed the winning putt in Europe’s Ryder Cup win in October and would surely be a worthy winner .
